to crash
Friday night was epic. I'm documenting my adventure here for the sake of prosperity, and I hate to say it, but you really had to be there.
The night began with simple intentions. We were to stay up all night and then drive my friend Tom to the airport for his 8:00 AM flight back to San Francisco. I searched all week for a Friday activity and decided the Milky Way's booty dance night would suffice. Not only is the venue stumbling distance from my apartment, but the bartenders make a killer cocktail. Plus, if the night is a bust, we can either bowl or return to my apartment for Wii bowling.
One by one friends show up at my apartment and the alcohol is flowing. Ever the thoughtful hostess, I stocked up on whiskey, gin, beer, mixers and ice. We were so distracted by the conversations, we didn't leave until 12:30. No worries, I assure my comrades, we'll have an hour at the bar. When we arrive at the Milky Way, the bouncer doesn't ask for a cover (yay!), but the coat check girl informs us the bar closes in ten minutes. CRISIS. We attempt to order yager shots but the bartender won't serve shots after closing time. Some of us chug drinks while the rest of us wonder what state we're in.
And the hunt is on for an open bar. The next bar across the street also closes at 1:00. The door guy recommends a dingy bar closer to my apartment, so we walk in the rain. At this point we are on a mission for yager shots and no one dares question what we'll do if we can't find an open bar. When we finally arrive at the famed open-until-2 bar, we promptly order 7 shots of yager, CHEERS and peace out back to my apartment. We've got plenty of booze at my place, but no yager, duh.
Others come and go during the night, but the core group remains. We haven't been together like this in forever and we'll push the night as far as our bodies will take us. We annoy my neighbors with obnoxious games of Guitar Hero and Rock Band. We drool over Planet Earth and twitch to Against Me! and Claude Vonstroke. At one point, a few of us make a drunken run to the convenience store, each with our own umbrella, for more mixer and of course dancing in the rain.
Then the time comes to march onward to the airport. We don't want to split up. So we pile the original group of six into an SUV and drive to the airport, disgusted by the drivers on their way to work at this ungodly hour. The whole ride was ridiculous. Six cracked out people giggling and driving to Logan. We were children running around without supervision when we should have been home in bed.
We return to my apartment and the group disperses. Andy's away for the weekend and I'm left alone. I hear a thunderstorm brewing so I head to bed before my anxiety sets in. I wake up hours and hours later with a huge smile on my face and one helluva dry mouth/empty stomach. I consume my friends' Vitamin Water and chinese food. Thank goodness for leftovers.
I wish I had photo evidence of the friends and fun, but cameras take you out of the moment, turning you into an observer rather than a participant. And Friday night was a complete experience.

i come from the water
The Toadies are getting back together!!
AND TOURING.
The last and only time I tried to see the Toadies perform was in 2001 when I was a naive co-ed. I got all dolled up and made the journey from college burbs to the city only to read SOLD OUT on the Paradise marquee. What kind of people buy rock show tickets in advance? (I should mention I didn't attend my first concert until I was nearly 17. It was free. And I went with my dad.) The Toadies broke up soon after and released a live recording of show, which included every hit and a haunting cover of "Where is my Mind?" One of my favorite live albums, The Best of Toadies: Live From Paradise is kick ass reminder of my stupidity.
Now the Toadies are back with one goal in mind - to save rock music. Sign me up.

the creeps
The Skinny Website makes me want to alternate between stabbing my eyes, eating several cheeseburgers, and bikini shopping. Most common deep thought: She's pretty skinny, but is she too skinny?
Mostly, it makes me sad.
