office space
I just sent a fax to myself.
I was sending a fax and chatting with someone. Suddenly I hear my phone ring, so I run to grab it. I frown at the Caller ID - the call is coming from the main number at work. I pick up and hear the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep of a max machine. Oh. I am so stupid.
Did I mention I skipped hot coffee this morning for Diet Coke?

and the living is easy
Last week it was cloudy and breezy in Boston, unseasonably cool weather for early June. I *never* talk about the weather or even check the damn thing on the internet. New England weather is so unpredictable there's no point in trying to plan ahead. Plus, I'd rather go by the ignorance is bliss rule when it comes to thunderstorms. Anyway, everyone at work was yakking away about how the temperature was going to hit 90 over the weekend. I won't believe until I see it.
Well I woke up Saturday morning a believer. The weather was indeed "hot and sticky, like my balls," as they say about Florida. I spent the weekend hot but not bothered. Saturday I hid in my cool basement apartment with a friend, lots of ice cream, and proper gin-n-tonics. Sunday was too hot for the beach so I went for a silly ride-for-two on Andy's moped, the wind cooling us as we raced down the hills of Boston. And I fell asleep peacefully in the nude, with the windows open and the sounds of summer drifting through the apartment.
Don't get me wrong -- the summer sucks in Boston. The goddamn humidity has me sweating 24/7, not to mention the schizophrenic state of my hair. But I love the beach and skimpy summer dresses and frosty frozen drinks. See, I associate seasons with clothing and food. The winter is all about layers and obnoxious large coats and comfort food, oozing with cheese of course, while the summer has me prancing around in tank tops and mini skirts, downing iced coffee at least twice a day. Instead of warm, greasy food I crave fresh fruit and sparkling vegetables. My first official meal of the summer was arugula, pine nuts and grilled shrimp, tossed in lemon vinaigrette. For dinner tonight I'm looking forward to grilled salmon and a side of edamame, followed by strawberries and Cool Whip for dessert.
So for now I love the summer, in all its too hot for anything but sitting glory. But talk to me again in a few weeks when I'm tired of wearing long sleeves at work and sweating the moment I leave the shower. Like any good New Englander, I love the change of seasons, but eventually, the monotonous uniforms and food to battle the weather get old. It's too bad my favorite seasons, spring and fall, are the shortest.

In summary 1) I am definitely returning to DEMF next year, but flying and 2) required road trip supplies include Jelly Bellies and classic rock.
